I recently was asked if I could come up with a number of ivory and
ebony pieces for a couple of jewelry projects. As the only keys
that have come in to my hands in the last couple of years were from
educational piano's, cheap one's as I was told, that were some form
of plastic (celluloid).
My questions are: would any restorers be willing to sell some keys or
ivory and the ebony plates, skins or whatever they are called. Or is
the sale of ivory keys prohibited? Also, what would be a reasonable
price for a key with the ivory pieces intact on it? The ebony sheets
would just be easier for the party to work with as they have no wood
working equipment.
I was quoted by a antique/flea market dealer $20.00 per key, in the
greater Detroit area.
Also, does anyone have a few for purchase?
Thanks,
Glen R. Perye Jr.
