Re: 060313 MMDigest - Gorilla Glue
Eric Shoemaker's post about "Gorilla" Glue [060313 MMDigest]
reminded me of a term our shop tech used in the shop where ran the
office a few years ago. When she had a screw that had been put in _so_
tight that removing it was at best difficult, if not nearly impossible,
she'd refer to the screw being screwed in "gorilla tight", and would
complain mightily about the damage done by screwing something in
"gorilla tight", her point being that overkill on something like that
can and often does do more harm than good.
I'm of much the same mind about a glue such as "Gorilla Glue". Having
not used it myself, I cannot say with certainty that I am correct in
this, but it sounds a bit like overkill. We already have products and
procedures in place that do just as effectively the things one would
(I assume) use "Gorilla Glue" for, and we know how to deal with them,
both in the initial application, and further down the road. As for me,
I'd rather spend my rebuilding time doing things I know how to do with
products and materials that I know how to use and what they're going to
do, rather than spend the time (and money) to try out new "stuff",
seeing how it works and developing new procedures for its use.
That being said, I am, quite honestly, thankful that there _are_ those
out there who _do_ have the time and interest to try things like this.
I'm always curious about new products, tools and materials, but seldom
have the time to try them out myself.
Those out there who are more able and/or willing to try out these
sorts of things provide me a valuable service, a sort of "research and
testing" department of sorts. And for this, I thank you.
