Dear Mr. Benjamin, The roll you played in 1943 was undoubtedly
Mastertouch Word Roll #D461, played by Laurel Pardey and Lettie Keyes.
The words were written by Frank Baker Murn, who later became the
husband of one of Mastertouch's artists, Edith Pardey. He wrote
words for all the compositions that didn't have words already, always
receiving first credit, so you will find rolls composed by 'Baker Murn
& Chopin', for instance!
Invercargill March is one of the rolls I've already covered with my
roll scanning project. You can listen to it directly by clicking the
following link: http://www.pianola.co.nz/rollscans/rollscan_search.asp
and entering 'Invercargill' in the title field. There are also
biographies of both Laurel Pardey and Lettie Keyes in my 'Artists'
section.
If you'd like a physical copy of the roll I have multiple copies and am
more than happy to send you one for the price of postage. Alternately
I can transcribe the words for you, if you don't have a player piano
readily available.
Regards,
Robert Perry
