Hello from the sunny and warm(ing) South! I recently was given an old
Stroud piano, labeled Duo-Art, style 600-P. Very dirty, beautiful(?)
yellow painted case, all the ivories gone -- you know the drill. The
one redeeming thing was that it all seemed intact and restorable.
I need your help! I have, through the past number of years, restored
a number of 88-note pedal pumpers, but never a beast like this.
According to one of the books I have, the 600-P was indeed a Duo-Art,
but more precisely a "half Duo-Art" I believe. There is an expression
box but with only one expression pneumatic. All the tubing is intact,
and all seems okay except the accordion pneumatics are missing.
The tubes that would lead to the separate accordion stages are all
jumpered over onto each other on the valve box, which is attached on
the bracket which comes off the expression box. There is a shadow or
"grime" line that indicates that there was something else attached to
that metal bracket, and directly up from this shadow line (which also
shows two screw holes in the bracket) is an external arm of the knife
valve located inside the pneumatic. I can only assume that there was,
indeed, a set of accordion pneumatics there.
Now, does anyone know the dimensions of the various moveable boards
so I can replicate them? I have Mike Kitner's rebuilding guide, and
that's helpful. Am I wrong about my assumptions here? Everyone's
input is welcome and greatly appreciated.
