"MIDI Virtual Keyboard" Test Program
By Spencer Chase

Greetings, I don't think that I have mentioned this on the MMD yet,
and I find support of that fact in the Archives, so here goes.

I have wanted a virtual MIDI keyboard that would provide all of the
features necessary for testing both e-valve fitted pneumatic players
as well as solenoid players. I never found such an animal or even
anything close so I wrote one.

The program has the ability to hold notes indefinitely as well to play
them for timed periods and also to play timed repeat cycles. It is
possible to test individual notes at different expression levels on
pneumatic instruments with varying strike durations and duty cycles.
Solenoid players can be tested with different MIDI velocities. If you
don't have a suitable instrument you can use the keyboard to make noise
on your computer's built in synth and let me know if it works.

I have found the program to be quite useful for testing my new PianoDisc
installation (an old salvaged unit in an old piano) as well as for
testing my pneumatic players. There is almost no limit to what you can
find wrong with your player when subjected to demanding note repetition
tests.

I am very interested in comparing notes with other owners of suitable
instruments who can use this program to test them. The program can be
downloaded from my web site's download page at:
http://www.spencerserolls.com/Files4Download.html

The link is the first one in the last batch of files, about half
way down the page. It is called "MIDI Virtual Keyboard Test Program".
Just unzip the program to a Windowz PC and double click the exe. To
understand how to use it, see the embedded "help" file by clicking on
the "help" button.

Please read the help file before writing to me for help. The program
seems to run on all computers on which it has been tested so far.

Best regards,
