This is the eve of last full day that I shall have the organ that has
given me so much pleasure, both in music and learning organ restoration.
Opus 1431 was originally owned by Lord Crossley of Mobberly. After
a checkered history of some 87 years this wonderful instrument is now
moving on, and those of you who bought the CDs will have a piece of
history too. (There are a few left, by the way, and I spent last week
recording for two further issues: "Gems from the Photoplay Era" and
"Father's Favourites". Both are hand played, and I'm very pleased
with the results.)
Those of you who know me will be saying "But why?" Well, it is not too
much of a secret that three years ago I bought Aeolian Op 1458 from New
Hampton, NH, and this 33-rank 3-manual job will, I feel more than
compensate for the loss of its smaller sister.
Tomorrow at around 7:00 GMT Op 1431 organ will fulfill its last engagement
at a special party where, in front of over 40 guests it will, I hope,
give the sort of results that would make the Aeolian Company proud (not
to mention myself too!) Those of you with pipe organs will know how
nervous I am now, and any positive thoughts for the night will be
greatly appreciated! Wish me luck.
Regards,
Paul Morris
