Hello to all: Just wanted to let the group know about a MIDI music
playing system -- I call it EPlayer -- which I build for pipe organs
and player pianos. It is basically an electronic version of paper
rolls.
It has software that converts the MIDI files (single track) and sends
them to an electronic circuit that turns the pallet valves on and off
to the melody and timing of the music. Music can also be put in, one
note at a time, from sheet music. This player system works through
your computer and/or music can be loaded onto EPROMS and played as
a stand-alone system. Operating systems are DOS and Windows 98 or
earlier. Will not run on computers using Windows XP.
This EPlayer system is ideal for a one or two rank organ, and will
possibly work on as many as three ranks, depending on the current draw
of the pallet valves (0.5 ampere max. each). It has a maximum of 112
outputs. It is relatively inexpensive compared to a other MIDI player
systems.
The cost is $390.00 and includes the software, EPlayer circuit board,
a 5 VDC power supply and a 12 VDC power supply (or a power supply as
high as 50 VDC), wiring connectors, instructions, and some sample
music to play on your organ or piano.
In addition to playing from your computer, small EPROM plug-in boards
are available for $36.00 each that allow you to store the music and
play it without the computer. The programming of the EPROMs is not
included, and would be your responsibility.
It is relatively easy to wire and install this EPlayer system to any
pipe organ, and it can be adapted to pianos if electric solenoids are
used with the keys. Each system is set up by me to your particular
organ or piano needs. I am currently building these EPlayer systems
for a calliope manufacturer.
Anyone interested can contact me. I'd be happy to play my pipe organ
for you, over the phone!
