I am trying to lighten an early 65-note Steck upright which needs to
be stood on end to get out of its present location. The stack is in
the lower half of the piano, above the exhausters and reservoir. The
pneumatics operate the piano action using long wires which go up behind
the keys to a rail which guides the top ends of the wires.
I have found the fixings for the stack, but I can't drop it far because
of the exhausters and reservoir. I can't slide it straight forwards
because of the wires attached to the pneumatics. I can't get at the
leather nuts on the bottom ends of the wires, also because of the
exhausters, etc.
The exhausters and reservoir are built onto a full width panel which
virtually fills the gap below the stack. I have undone the screws
holding this panel, but I can't tip it back or lift it up over the case
lip. The top of this panel is screwed to a rail, itself screwed to the
insides of the case. I can't reach the right hand end of this rail to
remove its fixing screws. (If I could remove the rail I could probably
tilt back the exhauster panel enough to raise it over the lip).
I'm obviously missing something really simple here. Has anyone seen
one of these and knows how to get it apart easily? If I could remove
the wires I am sure the stack will slide forwards, but how do I do
that.
I am going back to finish (if possible) Wednesday morning (UK time)
because it is being removed Thursday morning. If you have any hints,
please e-mail me directly to <john@musicanic.com>
Many thanks,
