I have an original Grand roller organ cob with no label containing
a number or title. The tune on it is John Philip Sousa's 1895 march,
"King Cotton", essentially note-for-note like the MIDI version that
appears on the Sousa web site http://www.dws.org/
The lists of Grand cobs I have seen (which were prepared using lists
that appeared in Sears Roebuck catalogs, etc., from the era when the
cobs could be ordered) include #2001-2140 and #3001-3017. I also have
a cob #2141, "Benny Havens, Oh!", that does not appear in the lists.
Of these 158 known cobs, none has the title "King Cotton" and I am sure
that none of the 142 different identified ones I have contains this
tune. Of the remaining 16, based on their titles as they appear in the
lists, none of them could be "King Cotton".
Does anyone else have a copy of this cob? If so, I would very much
appreciate it if you would tell me its number and exactly what title
is shown on the label, if your copy has an original label.
Thank you and best regards,
Richard Dutton
