I'm writing in response to Don Teach's posting about nickelodeon
collectors -- I think they are just wonderful, especially the American
models! I'm fortunate to own four.
The first real nickelodeon I saw was a newly restored Seeburg "Style F"
at the Duffy Player Piano Co. in Palisades Park, New Jersey, in the
early 1970s. The sheer beauty and ruggedness of the case had me
transfixed, not to mention the snappy ragtime music it put forth with
flute pipe accompaniment. It was just astounding to a then 16-year-old
whose only exposure to automatic music was a standard player piano.
I just had to have one.
34 years later I'm the proud owner of a Seeburg K, Electrova Style
66, Seeburg H and, most recently, a beautifully restored Seeburg FT.
I never forgot that piano and its influence on me.
