As long as we are on the topic of humidity control, do readers have
any experience or recommendations regarding devices sold to maintain
stable humidity in pianos? The only one I know of is "Dampp-Chaser,"
though there may be others I do not know of. Earlier Dampp-Chasers
consisted of only a heating element to reduce humidity; current ones
also have humidification built in. They also sell a cloth cover to
enclose the bottom (or back, in the case of a vertical piano), and
stabilize the environment. Perhaps such a system would help protect
a player mechanism and protect it from the environment.
