Mechanical Music in the Movies
By Rob Goodale

This evening on the Western Channel I was watching part of the movie,
"Great Northfield Minnesota Raid" (1972), starring Cliff Robertson
and Robert Duvall. In it is a major scene involving a steam calliope.
It appears to be genuine and not a prop, although we never get to hear
it play properly because in the movie it has a malfunction which is
part of the story line. Nevertheless I was wondering if anyone knows
where this instrument is now. I would assume it was loaned for the
making of the film and is in a collection somewhere.
