Symphonium 30 cm Upright Coin Operated Musical Box
By Jonathan Holmes

Having just acquired an example of a Symphonium 30 cm upright coin
operated music box at a local auction, I wonder if there is any reader
who has a similar box who is willing to send me some photographs of
their machine. Although in good order, it is missing all the escutcheon
plates and I am not sure what they should look like or what they should
be made of; it seems they were just stuck on. There was no upper
gallery and, although there is no clear screw holes, I presume it did
have a gallery at some time.

The final query is that I believe there is a part missing in the back
as the coin does not get as far as the draw -- it just drops on the
floor of the case. Should there be a chute?

The best thing about this purchase was that there were 67 discs with
it, including marches, waltzes and some good old English Music Hall
songs such as "Daddy Wouldn't Buy Me a Bow Wow!"

I would be also interested to here if there is anybody making recut
or new discs for this size of machine. It would have been nice to
have a few Christmas tunes.
