I just noticed today that there are thirty-five (count 'em!) Wurlitzer
165 rolls up for auction individually on eBay. Not one has a starting
bid of over $40, and there are three days or so left to run in the
auction.
There are some really good rolls there and a couple of dogs, but among
the good rolls is a copy of roll 6509-A, one of the oldest -- if not
the oldest -- 165 roll surviving. When I found it in the collection of
the late Jim Wells, Jim would agree to lend it for copying only on the
condition that I send it to the late Mike Kitner for copying. Mike
said it was the longest roll he ever handled. I had to sell the copies
for $125 each. A Play-Rite copy is now up on eBay for $40 ... and no
bids yet. A fantastic roll, going unnoticed! Not all the titles are
identified on the roll label, but you can find them on my 165 roll
