Who Is Making Piano Rolls?
By Ed Chaban

All the talk of piracy makes me long to meet the Blackbeard of
perforated paper. Keystone is gone, Play-Rite nearly so. QRS is going
electronic. We're at a point now where the only source of rolls will
be estate sales. What a morbid thought! Children will have to wait
until someone dies before they get to hear a different performance or
arrangement.

The only alternative is a MIDI-retrofit for a pneumatic player. The
purist in me just winces. Consider that the outlay for a Gerety-Chase
system would buy a lot of paper rolls. Then, of course, the scanners
would charge me for their scans.

How depressing! ... This is truly a "dying" hobby.
