FS: Organ-Building Book "Kistdraaiorgel" in English
By Craig Smith

Purchasing the new book "Small Barrel Organ - Building Instructions"

Hello and happy holidays to MMD, In late August and September I read
in MMD about a new translation of the book "Small Barrel Organ -
Building Instructions". This fine book was published by the author
Johan de Vries and titled "Kistdraaiorgel - bouwbeschrijving". It
describes the construction of a 36- or 38-note paper roll organ in
great detail. It also includes a number of good drawings, diagrams
and pictures.

The good news is that Henk Degraauw (organ builder from Canada) has
recently translated it into English for those of us who are less than
fluent in Dutch. Many people wrote to Henk to get a copy but it turns
out that Henk does _not_ have any copies to sell.

However, Henk and his friend Rich Marcella just happened to visit me in
Rochester this summer so I was in contact with him by e-mail. Henk put
me in touch with the publisher in the Netherlands so that I could buy a
copy. Finding the communication (e-mail intermittent), language (Dutch
only), shipping (slow and expensive) and money exchange (wire transfer
only) to be a big/expensive problem, we spent several weeks working out
an arrangement for me to buy 25 copies to sell here in the USA.

Allowing a couple more weeks for shipping, I now have some books to
sell to MMD and anyone else who might want one and a method by which
I can get more copies if needed. So -- why not buy yourself a neat
little book on organ construction for Christmas. If you are the type
who bought your mother a baseball glove for Christmas when you were a
kid, you might want to buy one for your spouse and hope that he or she
will let you read it. The book is described at the author's web page
at http://www.johansorgels.nl/index.htm

You will be pleased to see that the book tells you not only what to do
but it provides drawings and a section on how to do it. So, if you
want a copy, just send me an e-mail and I'll tell you the arrangements.
I can take PayPal either from your account or from a credit card or you
can send me money or a check. If you use PayPal, I'd appreciate it if
you'd add $1 to cover the PayPal fee. The cost is $24 plus $5
shipping. And there is a chance for a small discount.

The box of books broke open during shipping and the books slid out onto
the floor so there are a few scuff marks on some of the covers. But a
few of them have small tears or folds on the edges. If you are willing
to take one of the damaged ones, they gave me a small allowance so
I can sell them for $20 plus $5 shipping. Either way I'll put your
book into the Priority mail and you'll have it in a couple days.

Regards
Craig Smith
