Seek "Because I Love Thee So" to Identify a Cob
By Richard Dutton
Does anyone have either the sheet music to the song "Because I Love
Thee So" which you could copy for me or sell to me or a roll, disc
or other mechanical music version of the song which you could record
and forward to me? The song is apparently from a musical named "The
Maid of Plymouth" that had a limited run in the 1890s and I have seen
a reference to sheet music published by Harms in which the author of
the words is listed as "G. Burgess" and the composer of the tune is
listed as "T. Pearsall Thorne" (apparently a/k/a Thomas P. Thorne).
I am looking for the sheet music or recording of this tune because
I have a cob for the Grand roller organ which, by the process of
elimination, I think may be this tune (A recording of the unknown tune
on this cob was posted by me on MMD on 10/26/03 and can still be heard
on this web site under "Sounds" in the "Gallery").
Thanks!
