Dear MMD, Can anyone tell me exactly where in New York City was
Ampico headquartered? I've read that during the 1920s Ampico was based
out of the 'Lane-Bryant Building', but I'm uncertain if this statement
refers to the Bryant Park Studio Building (southeast corner, Ave. of the
Americas and 42nd St.) or the Bryant Park Building (northeast corner of
the same intersection) or neither. Moreover, I've also found a listing
for the Lane Bryant clothier at 1 West 39th St., New York.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Best wishes, Joe Moore
[ In the Nelson Barden interviews published in the book, "The Ampico
[ Reproducing Piano" (AMICA, 1987), Angelico Valerio recalled working
[ in the Ampico research laboratory on the tenth floor of the
[ Chickering Building on 57th St., above several floors of piano
[ sales rooms. He said the Knabe Building was at 584 Fifth Ave.,
[ at 47th St.

[ A 1928 Ampico advert reproduced in "Player Piano Treasury", page
[ 58, gives the corporate address as 27 West 57th Street, New York.
[ An advert on page 60 says, "For complete Ampico catalog, write to
[ American Piano Company, 584 Fifth Avenue, New York City."
