I have been following this subject with interest. Just two days ago,
September 28, 2005, the following ad appeared in a local newspaper:
"Huge record collection, 78s, over 7000 titles. Our charitable
organization was bequeathed the record collection of a well-known
collector. The collection has been catalogued and contains over
7000 titles of various musical styles and singers. ... Must be
removed before December. We are taking all reasonable offers
starting over $100. ..."
Here is a perfect example of just what has been discussed on MMD
lately. The recipient organization apparently knew nothing about this
meticulous collection until hearing from attorneys after the reading
of the donor's will. They obviously have no interest in it, and with
bids closing on November 8th, the collection will be dispersed and/or
disposed of very shortly.
I am sure that this is not what the donor had in mind when he wrote
his will. As previously stated, a donor must get in contact with
potential recipients and discuss this before final decisions are made.
I left out quite a bit of this ad for brevity. If anyone is interested
in further information, contact me and I will send you the complete ad.
