Olympia Musical Box Discs Damaged by Hurricane
By Bill McGown

-- non-subscriber, please reply to sender and MMD --

I have been asked by a local heritage foundation to try to save some
Olympia musical box discs damaged by Hurricane Katrina floodwater.
It appears that the discs are zinc coated.

Does anyone have a suggestion as to the proper procedure for saving
or restoring these discs? Another way of stating the question is
what should I do with discs that have been immersed in salt water?

By the way, the Olympia musical box appears to be okay. The water
level was high enough (30 inches) to cover the discs but it did not
reach the table the box was on.

Many thanks in advance.
