Places are still available on the autumn tour of the Mechanical
Organ Owners' Society. Travel is from England by luxury coach and
en-suite accommodation is provided in the Novotel Antwerp, Belgium,
with breakfast and evening meals included in the price. The
itinerary is as follows:
Saturday 12th November --
We pick up at Andover (St Mary Bourne), Maidenhead, Redhill (rail
connections available from all areas), and Dover, where we take a
leisurely ferry crossing to Calais. Our first destination is the
Restaurant 't Hoekske in Koewacht at which music will be provided
by the rare 105 key Albert Decap organ, a type of which only two
survive in daily commercial use.
Sunday 13th November --
Our first destination is the Open Day of the De Voer family at
Ulvenhout. Visiting organs will also be present in addition to
those normally kept at Ulvenhout. Our stay is planned to provide
plenty of time to hear all the instruments. As an alternative option,
a limited number of places only will be available on a side trip
to the collection of Danny de Bie at Balen. Space is, however,
extremely limited at the De Bie Collection and only a small group
can be accommodated.
The combined group will then proceed to the Klessens Dance Tent at
Rijkvoersel. Perhaps better described as a palace of mirrors, the
richly decorated and illuminated tent has a magical atmosphere and
features the 121 key Decap Herentals organ "De Kempenaer". We will
take an afternoon break here, with a chance for a drink and perhaps
a dance too!
We complete the day with our first ever visit to the Netherlands
Boekorgel Centrum in Hilvarenbeek (NBC). Recently founded by Chris
van Laarhoven and Toon Heesbeen, the company is rapidly establishing
itself as a leading organ manufacturer. We will see how the business
is developing and enjoy a buffet dinner to the accompaniment of the
various organs from the van Laarhoven Collection.
Monday 14th November --
Today we head to the most northerly provinces of the Netherlands to
visit two outstanding collections, neither of which has been visited
by the MOOS for a number of years. Our first destination is the
premises of Henk and Thea Veeningen at De Wijk. Our tour will include
music from instruments by Gavioli, Gasparini, Limonaire and others.
We continue northwards to the Draaiorgelmuseum Assen, which contains
the largest and one of the most varied collections of organs in the
Netherlands. We will enjoy a concert including music from organs by
Ruth, Mortier, Decap, Carl Frei and many others.
Tuesday 15th November --
The small Belgian town of Westerlo boasts no less than two private
collections of organs. Our first stop is the Jos Leclair Collection,
home to a very fine 92 key Gebr Decap organ and a little known, but
very magnificent 112 key Gaudin dance organ! This giant instrument
has not made a public appearance for many years and our visit will
provide a most unique opportunity to enjoy its special sound.
We will continue to Luc Peeters Kempische Orgelmuseum. This recently
established collection presents a variety of café organs in an
atmospheric setting, keeping alive the memory of the many cafes and
organs that once littered the area, but are now all but extinct.
We return to England in the late evening and set down at all pick up
points as on the outward journey.
Price per person: 285.00 GB Pounds sharing a twin room. Single room
available at 365.00 GB Pounds.
Price includes: all travel by executive coach, return ferry crossing,
three nights hotel accommodation, breakfasts and evening meals, all
entrances and arrangements. Not included: Lunches, drinks and spending
money.
