As a non-subscriber I have only just now seen the correspondence
concerning transferring funds from the USA to Europe. My friends
in the Player Piano Group (UK) seem to have amply covered all aspects
of the situation but there is one point I feel needs emphasising and
that is that in my experience there is very little danger in sending
cash through the mail.
As PPG Membership Secretary I have always encouraged reluctant
potential members to pay their dues this way. We normally have in
excess of 40 paying members world-wide at any one time and they almost
all settle by sending money through the mail (Sterling or dollars,
that is).
Obviously it would be better if our PostBid Plus PayPal account was
used (plus 5% surcharge), not least because it would make less work for
me! There will still be some members or potential members who cannot
use this facility and I would not hesitate to suggest they pay in cash,
as in eight years I have not known of anything going astray. It also
works the other way as I often send dollar bills to the USA -- and guess
where they originate!
