It just occurred to me that an article, "Build a MIDI Interface for
the Raffin Crank Organ", was published recently in issues 18 and 19
of "Carousel Organ", the journal of the Carousel Organ Association of
America (COAA). If you are not a member, Dr. Ron Bopp will no doubt
be pleased to provide back issues on CDs, and put you in touch with
Marge Waters for payment of membership dues. Dr. Bopp's address can
be found in the MMD Archives.
The detailed instructions in these articles should be adaptable to
update a barrel organ if pneumatics are added to lift the keys.
Also, Ragtime Automated Music might be worth checking as a source for
MIDI components, valves, pneumatics, etc.

[ Among the problems are (1) the adaptation of the barrel organ to play
[ music rolls or MIDI files must not increase the weight, since the
[ organillero carries the organillo by a strap about his neck, and (2)
[ the organ must play continuously for up to 16 hours without a pause
[ to recharge the battery (two organilleros trade the duty of cranking).
