Seek Parts for Aeolian Grand Player Reed Organ
By Howard Towlson
I have an Aeolian grand reed organ, which needs to be rebuilt.
This organ has 22 pull stops and plays the 58-note Aeolian grand rolls.
I have not started working on it; however, it is evident that it is
missing a part. I believe that it is the sub-bass reed box. It is
located (looking at the back if the organ) about half way down and to
the far right and apparently screws to a horizontal platform which has
two approximately one inch holes which probably is the vacuum feed to
the box. The box footprint looks to be 4 inches by 12 inches.
Directly about this location is a row of 12 metal tubes where one could
connect, say, rubber tubing, which could go to the missing box. There
are also two wooded control arms, which protrude into this area.
Can anyone confirm what this part is and what the wooden arms control?
Assuming this is a sub-bass box, is it simply a box to house 12 separate
reeds. Does anyone have a source for such a part? A second question is
did this unit have a rotating tremolo paddle? You can e-mail me direct
at howardt@netscape.com. Thanks.
