About 25 years ago I sold an unrestored, original Wurlitzer
orchestrion. It was at my home in Hicksville, Long Island, New York.
I have always wondered if it was ever restored and where it is located
today. Let me give a brief description of the unit:
Tall black oak case (approx. 7 feet tall) with full 88-note piano
keyboard. It has all the usual orchestrion instruments. The spool box
is above the keyboard in the center. Above the spool box is a leaded,
stained glass scene of a raising sun. On each side of the spool box
there is a 3 dimensional leaded, stained glass lamp post door with a
blue sky and trees as a backdrop. The lamp posts were lit from the
inside. There is a lot of blue in the stained glass. It had a set of
keys with it and the old cloth type tag on the key ring said "South
Beach" (Staten Island).
I sold it in 1980 to a fellow from Great Neck, Long Island, who also
bought, sold and collected other items such as slot machines, music
boxes, etc. The movers who came to pick it up said it was going to
Connecticut, but... where is it now?
If anyone knows its whereabouts, I'd love to be told. Perhaps I could
see it and maybe even listen to it. Thanks for any help or suggestions
you can give.
