Hi all, Following in the footsteps of Terry Smythe and Warren Trachtman,
I've launched my web site offering scanned rolls from my collection,
free for downloading. All I request in return is that, if you enjoy
the music, you sign my guest book and let me know.
The roll scanner was assembled for me by Terry Smythe and I owe him a
huge public thanks, in addition to those other pioneers, in particular,
Richard Stibbons, Wayne Stahnke, Warren Trachtman and Spencer Chase --
their technical brilliance is the only reason a novice like me can aid
in the preservation of these priceless pieces of music history.
I was lucky enough a few years back to acquire the master rolls and
roll library (plus perforating equipment, sadly non-operational) of the
Reliance Music Roll Company, which operated here in New Zealand from
approx. 1921 to 1930. Several Reliance rolls (which are exceedingly
rare, since Reliance apparently only sold within NZ) are scanned and
already on the site, in addition to a very brief history about the
company which I hope to add to soon.
The MIDI files are embedded with all the information contained on the
original roll, and I recommend vanBasco's Karaoke Player (freeware)
to get the most out of them. The files apparently work fine on the
Disklavier and other modern player systems but I'd love some more
feedback on that.
Now available are 100 scanned rolls, and I hope to add to that each
month. The URL for the site is http://www.pianola.co.nz/
Regards,
Robert Perry
