Following on from ghosting keys on player pianos ["Player Piano Keys
Don't Move"], you might be interested to know that there is a player
reed organ for sale here in UK where the keys ghost. It is a Bellolian,
made by the Bell Organ and Piano Co. in Guelph, Ontario, Canada,
formerly in my own collection for 10 years, and fully restored by Reg
Richings of London in 1993. Full details of this and the only other
three known examples (in USA & Canada) were in an article in "The Music
Box" magazine five years ago.
Besides a solid oak case and reeds of 16-, 8-, 4- and 2-foot pitch, the
keys move when the standard Aeolian rolls are being played. There is
a 'stack' above the keys which are extended to be about 16 inches long;
wire 'pull-ups' pull up on the rear of the extended key which pushes
the front down to play the note. Estey player organs had the same
design of stack.
What other reed organs have keys that ghost?
