Dear MMD community, After some other mechanical projects I decided
to take on a more serious challenge, and because of its relation to
fun-fairs with smiling people, music and happiness, a band organ will
be my project of choice.
I wish to build a band organ from scratch. To see if I will be able,
at all, I built some flageolet pipes and some unit valves. To my surprise
they worked, so this would be the moment to make the big decisions,
and for that I would like to ask your input.
Because I am only technical, and not that musical, I am considering if
I should build a musical brother of an existing organ. This seems to me
the easiest way to obtain playable music. Or would you say that music
is hard to get anyway, and it doesn't matter what type of organ you
have? I would consider copying a Wurlitzer 165 but I'd much rather have
more trumpets and bells, as opposed to lots of flutes.
Next thing is I am reading up on techniques, so I don't have to
re-invent the wheel. The book by Audsley, "The Art of Organ-Building",
seemed useful at first, but as I only have got Volume 1 it turns out to
be amusing at best. Anyone have any reading tips? Is Volume 2 of this
book perhaps available somewhere?
This week I'll start building the pressure regulator. I have never
done any leather working before so it is bound to get interesting.
Thanks for your ideas, and I'll keep you updated
Kind regards,
