Hello all, Have been following the thread for a while now. Thought
I would share a personal experience. As a teenager I was fortunate
enough to work in a store that sold music boxes exclusively. Until
I worked there I had no appreciation for them. But once I was around
them and could really listen, I fell in love.
My senior year of high school I had a research paper due. We could
write about anything. My topic was the history of mechanical music
(this was before I learned about MBSI or MMD). Not only did I write
the paper but I presented the information to my classmates, complete
with borrowed instruments. They were amazed at what was available.
And they enjoyed it. This was over 20 years ago but I still try to
share my small collection with whomever will listen.
Children and teenagers _will_ listen and enjoy, and some will grow
to love, these instruments if we give them a chance to hear them.
Let's not give up.
Just my two cents.
Regards,
Susan Robinson
