Dear Sir, I am a Steinway technician, piano rebuilder, and an RPT
in the Piano Technicians Guild. I'm writing to your firm on behalf
of my employer, Theme & Variations Piano Services, the exclusive
agents for Steinway & Sons in New South Wales, Australia. We also
operate a full-time restoration workshop, specializing in both New
York and Hamburg Steinways.
We have in our possession a 1913 Hamburg Steinway Model O Pianola,
Rosewood finish, serial number 161330, that we would like to offer for
sale to the trade. I am enquiring overseas rather than locally, as
there is little to no demand for pianolas and player pianos here.
The piano is in fair condition, with all original parts, and the
original ivory keyboard. Due to the stable climate in Australia,
the soundboard still has crown, no rib separation, and only a few
very small cracks. The bridges and wrestplank are not cracked with
the tuning pin torque in the acceptable range of 80-100 inch pounds.
The finish is worn and checked, but is in better than average condition
for its age.
This instrument would benefit from a full restoration (action
replacement and/or reconditioning, soundboard repair & refinish, re-pin
and re-string, refinish the case, etc.). The Pianola unit is still
intact and attached, along with its cabinet, but is not functioning.
According to the factory records in Hamburg, this piano was originally
shipped to Steinway Hall London in 1913, and then made its way to
Australia some years later. Please let me know if this instrument
would be of interest to you. I can send several photos, each about
120k in size, which illustrate the finish and general condition of the
piano.
Thank you for your time and I look forward to hearing from you.
Regards,
Boaz Kirschenbaum, Technician
