Cost Of Moving Pianos May Deter Sales
By Bill Sharkey
In the 05.06.25 MMD, Bruce Grimes writes: "I wonder why so many unusual
pianos on eBay aren't even bid on".
Excellent question. Here is my opinion. For starters, moving pianos is
so terribly expensive. Second, it's the unfamiliar location of the
piano and the problem of arranging for someone to move it and the
uncertainty of what that will cost. I have passed several good buys for
these reasons.
Some old MMD postings by Andy Taylor might suggest a solution. Andy
used to post that he was traveling from here to there to deliver or pick
up a piano, and he would asked whether anyone had a piano going or
coming that way. He said it would save the person some money and also
reduce his own expenses. Whatever happened to Andy that he suddenly
stopped posting back in 2002?
MMD would be a great resource for this kind of networking. How can we
use it? I would like to hear from others with ideas on the piano moving
issue.
