An auction was held recently in Sydney, Australia, where an Ampico and a
number of Ampico rolls were part of the offering. Prior to the auction
an article appeared in the Sydney Morning Herald, which suggested the
Ampico would sell for $100,000. A 1923 5'4" instrument, it had a
painted case and played reasonably well.
As it turned out, bidding reached $27,000, but the instrument was
passed. I don't know what the reserve price was. The rolls were
offered separately, and I understand some were sold. It seems auctions
bring the best(?) prices!
