Hello MMD readers,
Since the publication of issue #11 of the ARTCRAFT Newsletter
( http://www.wiscasset.net/artcraft/issue11.htm ), far more has been
uncovered about the Visuola, a topic with which I have been involved
for many decades.
The reason for this new information is that a correspondence began
with people connected to Aeolian Hall who read my webpages on that
subject and wrote to me. This led to a telephone interview with the
last living person connected with Aeolian's educative projects.
We have that 1927 book, "Blazing A New Trail In Piano Playing," plus
other brochures on the subject published by Aeolian's Educational
Department.
Also, thanks to the generosity of Randy Herr, we have a Visuola Duo-Art
roll, partially analyzed already. Pictures of this will appear in our
next Newsletter, #12, which is devoted almost entirely to the Visuola
topic.
There were more facets to the Visuola than one might realize, especially
if every tangent were traced, including the period before the Aeolian
Company got involved with that teaching device.
Issue #12 of my Newsletter is long overdue, but roll sales and other
distractions have interfered with assembling the materials and putting
together what I hope to be the definitive Visuola article, complete with
photographs of some existing equipment.
Stay tuned!
Regards,
Douglas Henderson
