We are pleased to announce the addition of a major article on the life
and times of the great Italian-German artist, Ferruccio Busoni, a valued
part of the web site devoted to the work of the Reproducing Piano Roll
Foundation. The article is titled "Master Of All," and its author is
the American writer/commentator/editor/translater, Robert Rimm of
Chronos Studios in Philadelphia. It appeared originally in the splendid
publication "Piano International" in the January/February 2004 issue.
We were so impressed with the material that we requested and obtained
permission to reprint it, with the many fine pictures (also courtesy
of Chronos Studios) included.
This has resulted in a huge document (8 MB) which has been placed in
PDF. Members with DSL capability will be able to access it in a matter
of 2 or 3 minutes. Those of us with dial-up, however, are advised that
it takes nearly an hour to load in this format. This a result of the
photos involved, which take considerable time to download.
Although the article is scholarly, it is very readable and provides
additional insights into Busoni's character, convictions, and
compositions. Included is a most enjoyable article by the American
pianist Garrick Ohlsson, who has been a career-long admirer of the
composer and who gave an unforgettable performance of Busoni's Concerto
with the Cleveland Orchestra under the direction of Christoph von
Dohnanyi in 1989, which was recorded by Telarc International, at the
behest of this organization.
We are recommending this new article to everyone interested in the great
artist Ferruccio Busoni, who has yet to become fully known and admired,
despite his many remarkable achievements, his unmatchable artistry, and
as the title indicates, his "Master(y) Of All."
