I am seeking information about my late grandfather, Max Heller,
and my late uncle, Erwin Heller, to include in a memory book
I am making for my mother Eliza (Elsie), nee' Heller. Mother is 84
years old now and in reasonably good health. I am making her this
book to enjoy these last few years of her life. She is the last of
the Heller family, although she has her own children as well as a
niece and nephew.
An article in the MMD archives for 2001.05.22 questions the spelling of
my uncle's name, whether Irwin or Erwin Heller. It is Erwin Heller. My
grandfather was a pipe organ and band organ repairman/builder. If I
remember my mother's story correctly, he also worked for F.E. Gooding
until his death in the mid-1950's, while traveling on a job. My uncle
Erwin learned the trade under his father's apprenticeship. My mother
said that they were very secretive about their work but that, being a
girl and one of the family, she and my grandmother, Martha Tetzlaff
Heller, often watched them work.
I am particularly interested in locating pictures or anecdotes that
would shed light on the life and organ of the Hellers. Please reply
to p_s_baker@hotmail.com.geentroep (delete .geentroep when replying).
Thank you,
Patricia Baker
[ Erwin Heller is well-known to us in connection with the famous
[ "Heller Hoard," from which came many band organ treasures now in
[ collections such as the Sanfilippo Collection.
