Dear MMD, Skinner's next Science and Technology auction takes place
on 3-4 May 2005. As usual the sale features a large section of
mechanical music, but unusually this time it will be a two-day auction.
The sale takes place at Skinner's Bolton Gallery (45 minutes outside
Boston), Route 117, 357 Main St., Bolton, MA 01740. Previews are on
Sunday 1st through Tuesday 3rd May. The catalogue is available in PDF
format on the internet at www.skinnerinc.com. The printed version for
subscribers is due out at the end of the week.
Mechanical music and automata will be on the first day, including the
collections of long-time MBSI members Sandy Libman and James Brady.
James' collection includes three large orchestrions, a magnificent
Briscovia "A", a Weber Unika and a Phillips, while Sandy's has many
cylinder and disc musical boxes, coin-op, barrel organs and automata.
Other highlights include:
- Two fine overture boxes by Lecoultre and Bremond.
- An example of the mysterious Paillard "Quator", in longue-marche
interchangeable format.
- A Bremond six-air organocleide with bells. This box comes from the
family of the original owner, and is in wonderful original condition.
- A rare coin-operated Bicycle Race amusement machine with music.
- Disc Boxes: Polyphon "Savoyard", Symphonion "Gambrinus",
Criterion 20-inch table and upright boxes, various table models,
upright Stella and Symphonion, etc.
- Over thirty automata including: Roullet et Decamps pair of acrobats,
a Renou magician with puppet booth, Gustave Vichy "Moresque Harpist",
Thibouville-Lamy barrel organ with automaton monkey, a possibly unique
Bremond picture automaton and two large landscape pictures.
