I have been reading all these horror stories about various scams
on eBay.  If this continues it will kill off the auction market for
mechanical music items (and others) for good.

How about running a private auction for mechanical music on MMD?  I've
no idea if it would be legal, but being confined to MMD subscribers
might make all the difference.
