I received last week my copy of Kevin McElhone's book, "Mechanical
Music." While this small book is not for the advanced collector, it
gives a concise overview of the range of mechanical instruments, from
musical boxes through fairground organs with a description of almost
everything in-between.
This treatise is excellent for anyone just getting started in
collecting and wants an overview, or as in my case, a clear concise
and well presented way to introduce our hobby to our friends and
family that simply don't understand the broad field of collecting.
Another feature of this book that I truly enjoyed is that there is an
extraordinary number of pictures (most of them color) here that show
a broad spectrum of instruments, many of which are unique or unusual.
This and the fact that the price is $10.50 on Amazon.com, or 5 pounds
sterling, makes it an exceptional bargain.
