Hi All, Kim Bunker here from www.playerpianos.com I read the articles
on cleaning screws of rust and corrosion. When we deburr and polish
all the plate screws in a piano harp, we always use non-retardant brass
lacquer by Mohawk Finishing Products. This stuff is great if you want
your finished screws or brass parts to keep their luster and not rust
or corrode anymore. The lacquer properties are elastic to metal, much
like lacquer is to wood, and it stays on the metal like a glove.
I have used this product since it came out in 1983 and I recently saw
some our work from back then. All of the screws that were coated look
as new as they did when the piano left our shop back in 1983. The
piano I'm talking about that I saw recently is in a home right above
the ocean in Laguna Beach, Calif. I think that is more than enough
testimony for this stuff.
Sincerely yours
Kim Bunker
