I looked at this auction for the Regina Music Box, and saw the same
warning flags as others did: 0 rating on the seller, high-price item,
Private Auction, and money order or cashiers check for payment.
The "squiggle" in the lower-right corner of the picture is a watermark
added when you post a picture on a listing using a listing service or
something like that. It's a small camera.
I emailed the seller, asking for a picture of the top of the music box.
I said that the condition of the wood on the top tells me about the
environment that the item was kept in over the years; humidity,
temperature, etc. Ha ha. Anyway, no response. No surprise.
And yes, there _is_ something you can do about it. I went to the eBay
contact page, followed the links, and there is actually a category for
reporting an auction that you suspect to be fraudulent. Go to this
link: http://pages.ebay.com/help/contact_inline/report_listing.html and
select 1. Report a listing policy violation or... then 2. Fraudulent
Listings, then 3. Report a listing you think is fraudulent (you didn't
bid). The seller of the original item has a different option under the
second box, "Copying of your listing."
My suggestion is that those of you who are good at spotting this
sort of thing (I'm not, though I appreciate the warnings and find
it interesting) follow the link above ASAP and report these scammers.
Now, with 4 days left in the auction, we'll see if eBay does something
about it!
