In restoring my 1926 Mason and Hamlin Ampico I find a lot of very thin
(1/16th inch or less) cork gaskets were used originally. Contacting
the regular resources for replacement I find only 1/8th inch stock,
much too thick for some applications. I do not trust the rubber/cork
combination that is available for long term air tight situations.
Is there a source for ultra thin cork?
As an aside, I have had good luck in the past using leathers from
MacPherson Leather Co, 519 12th Ave. S., Seattle, WA, 206-328-0855,
"Largest selection of leather in the Northwest."
Also www.macphersonleather.com Their scrap bin had a wide variety of
leather scraps, large enough to be very useful. Years later I am still
using some of the materials from MacPherson. If you are in the Pacific
Northwest it is a resource.
