Possible Musical Box Auction Scam
By Craig Smith
Hi, I recently noticed an interesting music box on eBay. It's
a small cylinder box and the eBay number is 6161171549.
The pictures are very dark and the description sort of vague so I sent
a message to the seller asking for better pictures and a phone number
so I can hear it live. After a second request, I received the
following message:
"Sorry for my lack of response as I could not think of a proper one.
I feel uncomfortable giving out my phone number and I did not want
to cater to one buyer over another by sending extra pictures, etc.
I have been inundated by special request from buyers with everything
from 'will you ship out of the country' (which I don't) to 'can you
copy the cylinder for me.' I can only say this is a fantastic item
and I hope to see you in the bidding."
I find this sort of strange because I could easily get the number from
eBay (or he could ask for mine) and he could easily add the pictures
to the auction so everyone could see them. Have you ever heard of the
excuse of 'not catering to one buyer over another'? Since I recognized
at least one of the bidders I thought I'd post this as a warning to be
careful. I'd like to buy this box but my instincts tell me not to bid.
Regards
