Hi Marc, I saw your posting in MMD regarding proposed visit to Sydney.
When are you intending to visit?
The Taj Mahal is on loan to Luna Park (a fun park in the middle of
Sydney) along with the carousel and several other automata. I think
owner Craig Robson is on MMD so he might reply direct.
The Powerhouse Museum, near the CBD, contains the small Fotoplayer
and a carousel barrel organ, along with many working steam engines
and a plethora of other interesting things, enough to fill in a whole
busy day.
Mastertouch Piano Roll Company in Stanmore (inner western suburb)
has a collection of pianos, as well as the roll manufacturing and
box-making facilities.
For steam locomotives, a visit to Thirlemere, about one hour south of
Sydney, has a good collection. And for theater organs the Marrickville
Town Hall and Orion Center have installed Wurlitzers (2/11 and 3/16
respectively). With some notice we may be able to arrange access as
I am a member of the local chapter of TOSA (NSW).
I would be happy to help as much as I can (I live near the Olympic
Games site).
Cheers,
John Weismantel,
Sydney, Australia
