Removing Latex Paint To Preserve Original Finish
By John McClure
I have acquired a Venetian style cabinet I want to use for piano
roll storage; I assume it was part of a dining set as there is
a compartmented velvet lined drawer at the bottom.
In the recent craze for painted furniture this noble piece endured
two coats of Home Depot 'Mixmatch' colors in an attempt to cover up
its original chinoiserie-paned panels that the previous owner thought
dreary. I love the lacquer panels and much of the paint simply peeled
off when I took the elaborate brasswork escutcheons and hinges off.
My question is, what is the best way to remove the latex paint without
damage to the beautiful lacquer?
Thanks,
