If you are interested in piano rolls and J Lawrence Cook, you will be
pleased to learn that the ever-resourceful Mike Meddings has come up
trumps again! A chance conversation with veteran jazz-photographer
Duncan Scheidt has turned up some stunningly shot photos of Cook at
Imperial Industrial Co., New York, in 1949.
According to Mike, Duncan had gone along to ask J. Lawrence Cook about
his memories of Fats Waller, whose biography "Ain't Misbehavin'" he was
then researching. He took some photos of Cook as he had his camera
with him. By happy coincidence all these have been unearthed by
Scheidt and the stunning photos can be seen at
http://www.doctorjazz.freeserve.co.uk/index.html
(The J. Lawrence Cook photographs can be accessed from the "Updated"
box.)
Please also pause to have a look through the other pages at Mike's
site. There is so much there now you could spend evenings reading
through it all. There is mountains of ever-evolving and expanding
authoritatively researched info on Jelly Roll Morton, J Lawrence Cook
and much more, MIDI files, photos, etc. It is a genuine gold mine of
a web site!
Sincerely
Adam Ramet
