Value of Welte Player Piano
By Bob Billings

A fellow at Lake Tahoe wants to get rid of a 1922 Frederick (Jacob
Doll) upright Welte within the next month. It is in a fairly good
condition: original oak case, action original and fairly tight,
original hammers and strings. Bass strings and hammers should be
replaced, though they still sound fairly good. Ivories have been
replaced with plastic.

It has been in the same location for a number of years. The player
was working a couple of years ago, and now doesn't. The previous
owner did a fairly good job of recovering the expression pneumatics;
unknown how much else he did, all about 15 years ago. The pump works
okay, but there are severe leaks after the expression system, no
notes play. Maybe he used one of the amazing last-forever fabrics
for the pouches?!

Anyhow, how much is it worth? I will have severe domestic problems if
I bring home another piano, so I'd like to help him find a home for it.
