Hi All: When I read the recent posting about the Catalina Page organ
I immediately wondered whether "our" Page organ in Ft. Wayne, Indiana,
was significant enough to be mentioned. As the article progressed,
there it was! So now, some of the "rest of the story".
The Embassy theater in which the Page is located was slated for the
wrecking ball in the early 1970s, as had happened to several of it's
neighboring theaters for several city blocks around. However a "Save
the Embassy" drive was launched and the theater was purchased for,
I believe, $200,000. Since then the theater and the Page have been
restored and the Embassy is a working venue for all sorts of traveling
shows, plays, etc. It is a beautiful showplace and an outstanding site
in the community. The Fort Wayne Philharmonic performs there and we
are treated to music in a beautiful, acoustically exciting showplace.
And besides all this, the Page console can be called on to rise
majestically up out of it's berth at the side of the orchestra pit.
