I have a copy of the Vestal Press Technical Series No. 7, "Flutes
and Chest for Coinola Piano," bought from PPCo. The copy I have
is dated Dec 18, 1975. After reviewing the print it seems to be
incomplete and I'm wondering if there is an updated print.
On the print the chest diagram and dimensions seem to be okay but,
as for the Flute diagram, it seems to be missing the measurement for
the air hole that is under the throat piece. It gives a "so called"
"Actual size No. 11" drawing but does not give the size of the
hole under the throat body. There is a note on the top that says
"Dimensions shown are the same for all flutes. For letter dimensions
refer to chart."
I would just measure the size of the hole in the drawing (seems to
be a 9/16" hole) but that would not work because it is a No. 11 flute
and the hole would have to be smaller for flutes 1-9 and maybe bigger
from 12-24. This is a major mistake. I'm sure if anyone tried to
build these flutes from these drawings they would not succeed, or even
be able to start, for that matter.
Has anyone encountered this or might have an updated drawing? Or
has someone that has built these from this drawing figured out the
hole sizes? Please let me know.
Musically,
Robert Loeffler
