Recordings of Ancient Mechanical Music Instruments
By Frank Metzger
Hi Wolfgang: Please refer the lady seeking recordings of ancient
instruments to Helmut Kowar. He has more early organ recordings than
anyone else. He also has recordings of early organ clocks including my
George Pyke (1765) and a few others. Email <Helmut.Kowar@oeaw.ac.at>
There are a couple of interesting sites on the Internet which contain
the music of early instruments but in MIDI rather than actual
recordings. Here is one of them (Search under "Automatic Organs"):

I assume the lady knows about the Nationaal Museum van speelklok tot
pierement. Jan Jaap Haspels might have some recordings of early
instruments but except for that actual recordings are rarely available.
Of course there is plenty available of late 18th century and early 19th
century music and the above sources will be useful. Also, there are
plenty of music boxes from the 1810-1830 era but relatively few
recordings of these earlier machines.
Best regards,
Frank Metzger
