Hi, I have a 1920's upright, Stroud piano, with an Aeolian player
unit. I have owned the piano for 7 years, and have never had it
serviced until last week. The player piano technician that came out
to tune the piano, and fix the re-roll, could not perform the task.
Apparently the piano at one time (who knows when?) was rebuilt by
someone who knew a little bit about what he/she was doing, and relied
on manuals to do the rest.
As of today, the piano plays, a little out of tune, and not every roll
perfectly. It needs a complete restoration, and I was quoted ballpark
$5000. If there were any sentimental attachment to this unit I would
have the work done, but there isn't; it was kind of a fun thing I
picked up from a friend who was moving. I would love to _give away_
this piano. It really is a nice piece and I would hate for it to turn
up in a landfill. I'm in Connecticut, in the Groton New London area.
Do you have any professional contacts in this area that may be
interested in the piano? I also have about 100 rolls of music.
